In Summer 2014, Young Scientists went to Uganda! Over the month of July, instructor Ian Miller taught science to primary and secondary students in Kampala and several surrounding villages, and in addition, trained over 70 science teachers. Teachers came from public, private, Catholic, and Islamic schools, from city and village, and participated in full day workshops that included: research-supported demonstrations on how to excite kids about science; discussion of challenges in common, such as large student teacher ratios (on average 60 to 1 in Uganda) and limited supplies; and ways to tackle these challenges going forward. Workshop video and teacher interviews can be viewed below. Young Scientists looks forward to ongoing collaboration with partners in Uganda!
